A Big Part of My Life!

This is my man!
He is not grumpy or angry.
He is squinting into the sun!

Every day he does something for me and our kids.
Every day he gives a piece of himself to us.

He is a sweet, wonderful and caring man. I am sure I am one of the few people who see that side of him. As wonderful as he is, he pushes me to do things I would not have tried before. Such as, a charcoal drawing of a car.
This is the first car I have ever drawn and it was completely from my memory of a car my man once raced. It was not his fastest car but he still enjoyed it just as much as any of the others he has owned.

I must have done alright because my oldest son saw it and said, "Mom, that looks like the Cutlass." I was so proud that a drawing from my memory, of a car I have not seen in years, turned out well enough for someone to recognize!

I have been inspired by so many in my house who enjoy cars so much!
There will be more drawings of cars to come.

A new look.

I did this charcoal of myself for a way of fun and practice. It was in the afternoon on a Saturday during a garage sale. I kept myself busy during the times when no one came. During the times when people did come, and catch a glimpse, I was well complimented for my work in progress.
Once I finished this drawing I was not sure I liked it. The more I looked at it I grew to like it and now I prefer it over several other charcoals I have done.
This charcoal was rewarding as it showed me to myself in a new way. A new look.

I love doing portraits of people and animals. They tend to have a life of their own.

I even have a favorite photographer, Dana Guether.

  • She is fun and friendly.
  • She pays attention to lighting.
  • She gets difficult children to behave.
  • She is my sister (probably the most important reason, right?)

I like do-it-yourself photos too. Pictures that have been taken by regular people.

  • They capture things a photographer might not.
  • They are full of surprises.
  • They are simple (your child standing in a pan, or your dog smelling flowers.)

Most of my drawings on my last post were do-it-yourself photos by different people.

All of my drawings on this post are photos by my favorite photographer.

Each of these photos had been taken in 2007. I added the date to them because I thought it might be fun to turn a more recent photo into a drawing to show how much these guys have all changed.

I have not started on the more recent photos yet but I will post them when they are finished.

Be Honest!

Tell me what you think!

I have never put my art out for the world to see because I never felt like it. I usually draw and have fun with my subjects. Recently, I have been told, by people who have seen my work, that I do good which got the wheels in my head turning.

I started googling different art (mostly charcoal) sites to see if people just post it, or if they sell it.

Now all the thoughts, that go through my head, regarding my art and what it is, compared to what it should be or would have to be are overwhelming! I look at my charcoals and think, 'Oh, that can be fixed,' or, 'Hey! I bet darkening this shadow or taking that one out would make a drastic difference.'

To me, none of it is ever finished! I enjoy it too much!

Making my drawings come alive from a flat image on plain paper, to resembling a photo or person I know or have seen, sends butterflies through my tummy. It is almost like falling in love, all over again, every time I draw! (Have you ever been in love? It's an amazing feeling! Yes, it has its ups and downs - and so does my art!)

For the most part, all the pictures posted are in the order they were drawn, except the dog. All I am asking it for you to tell me what you think - I have thick skin and broad shoulders, so be honest.

I want feedback on the GOOD and the BAD!
